Miguel had just been sentenced by a judge to spend a year living in a group home as a consequence for what he did.  He also has to write in a journal to explore his thoughts and feelings about his actions and his role in the event that happened.  While in the group home, Miguel meets Mong and Rondell who have thick background files from their troubled childhood.  Mong convinces Miguel and Rondell to escape the group home and travel to Mexico with him to start over.  Miguel decides this could be the answer to all of his problems.  If he could start over, he could forget all about what happened.
