Violet and Theodore...two high school seniors whose paths have crossed while they are both standing on top of a bell tower for different reasons.  Theodore is there because he is exploring ways that he might die.  Violet is there contemplating a way to escape the constant pain of living with her older sister's death.  It's really unclear who actually saves who that day, but both of them climb down and begin a friendship that will change both of their lives forever.
