by Alison Gervais
Genre:  Realistic Fiction

Maya has been deaf since age 13 and had been attending a school for the deaf.  Now her family has moved from New Jersey to Colorado and she is going to start her senior year of high school at a school for the hearing.  Maya isn't sure how she will be able to navigate high school with only her interpreter who knows sign language.  She meets Nina, her peer mentor, and then Beau, the senior class president, but she isn't sure if they really want to be friends with her.  As Maya navigates the challenges of high school in the hearing world, she has to learn what is most important:  staying true to herself or doing what others might think is best for her.
